Mowreq
Introduction
In December, 2022, we initiated a joint venture with Mowreq Specialized Agriculture, the pioneer of indoor vertical farming in Saudi Arabia. Together, we plan to develop fresh produce infrastructure throughout the Kingdom.
Our first farm will be located in Riyadh, the captial city. It will be the Kingdom's largest indoor vertical farm with a daily yield of 2,200 kilograms in leafy vegetables, and it will be the tallest vertical farm in the MENA region.
In line with the Saudi 2030 Vision, we are committed to advancing the Kingdom's agriculture industry. We will create jobs and provide education to people of all ages, help to ensure food security and promote healthy lifestyles.
Building MENA's Tallest Vertical Farm
Whereas most of our indoor vertical farms are 10 meters high with 14 levels, our new farm in Riyadh will be 15 meters tall with 19 levels. Building at this scale will require innovation across our supply chain.
Our vertical farm's structure has to be redesigned so that it can support the increased weight. Our manufacturing, construction, technical and operating teams also need to adapt to the new design.
Building and operating a vertical farm of this height will be a challenge, but it's a challenge worth solving. The taller the vertical farm, the higher it's productivity per square meter of floor space.
Helping Mowreq to Scale Up
Our partner, Mowreq Specialized Agriculture was the original pioneer of indoor vertical farming in Saudi Arabia. Dana Enany, Khder Al-Ghamdi, Modar Nazer and Obeid Bin Zagr co-founded the company in 2019.
Mowreq's original farm is located in Jeddah. It grows leafy greens, culinary herbs, and edible flowers. This farm has been supplying local restaurants and retail stores with fresh produce under the Jana Farm brand.
Their mission has always been to supply Saudi communities with locally-grown, safe, clean, and nutritious food, offering a sustainable alternative to imports, which have long dominated the Kingdom's fresh produce market.
Realizing the Saudi 2030 Vision
We address all three pillars in Saudi Arabia's roadmap for sustainable development. We promise to improve people's health and quality of life, while creating jobs and training workers in the use of advanced agriculture technologies.
Not only will we stimulate the economy, but we will also ensure environmental stability in a number of ways; enabling Saudi Arabia to produce food despite limited water resources in the arid, desert environment.
As the Saudi 2030 Vision develops, a new community will grow in the northwest of Saudi Arabia. In the short term, we're focusing on the cities of Riyadh and Jeddah, but we are poised to serve the Kingdom's future development.

Arab News: Only way is up as Saudi crop growers move from traditional to vertical farming
The only way is up as enterprising Saudi crop growers increasingly take the technological leap from traditional to vertical farming methods.
Although the Kingdom’s diverse weather conditions make it ideal for growing a variety of produce, traditional farming is highly seasonal.
As a result, the country’s agricultural sector has steadily been moving toward more sustainable, cost-effective production systems, such as vertical farming, to offer year-round yields.
When Dana Enany noticed a gap in the market for local produce, she decided to explore vertical farming on her Jeddah-based holding, Jana.
She told Arab News: “I was always intrigued by the farm-to-table concept, and I wanted to create this experience at hand in Saudi Arabia...” [READ MORE]
